MANILA, Philippines — Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has urged the public to pray for the country’s leaders as political tensions continue to rise.
In a statement on Wednesday, Advincula expressed concern that the political turmoil has diverted the focus of the nation’s leaders, draining their “energy to serve those in most need and the neglected.”
Article continues after this advertisement“I humbly exhort you all to pray for them that they may receive the grace to exercise statesmanship in most trying times, so that sobriety may prevail in our land and that political issues and personal interests may not divide the nation,” he said.

“I also ask all leaders of goodwill from different sectors of our society to do what they can to prevent the escalation of political and personal conflicts,” he added.
