MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems are currently affecting the country, but no typhoon is expected to develop within the next four days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
At a briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the northeast monsoon or amihan will bring rains in northern Luzon, while the shear line is currently affecting the eastern side of Luzon and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will affect Mindanao, Palawan and Visayas.
According to Estareja, the temperature in northern Luzon has also dropped significantly because of the northeast monsoon.
Meanwhile, Estareja said that based on the latest animation, no low-pressure area (LPA) and typhoons were monitored by the state weather bureau.
“We don’t expect an LPA or typhoon to enter our Philippine area of responsibility in the next three to four days,” he said.
PAGASA said Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Negros Island Region and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the ITCZ.
On the other hand, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur will experience rains due to the shear line.
The northeast monsoon will bring rains in Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, the rest of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.
Localized thunderstorms will bring cloudy skies with isolated rain showers in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Estareja said that based on the three-day forecast, cooler weather and light to moderate rains will be experienced in Northern Luzon while scattered rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over portions of Central Luzondbx 777, Southern Luzon and Visayas due to shear line.
